Concur the "Post a Reply" is missing from the Legends page, unlike this page.

Off topic:

I am trying to reply to the "AMG 50th Anniversary - 2017 Legends of the Autobahn" thread but the "reply" buttons are gone (?), almost as if I had not logged on yet. Wondering if it is just me or everyone else is experiencing the same.

My reserve was $38k and the bidding was stalling at $34k and I released the reserve. Bidding shot up $5k quickly after I removed the reserve to the final price.

I think the car is worth $42-$45k but I was hurt by going the first night and the 10th car auctioned.

Overall, I am satisfied. I need the cash to fund my widebody restoration.
Funny thing is we were having dinner at Sapporo, right behind the tent and these people came out screaming they couldn't believe the good deals under the tent that evening.

First thing I asked was "How much did the white AMG sell for?!"

I concur with you Al, timing may have not been the best for the SEC auction but I am happy that you got a bit more than your reserve.

And like the say "onto the next one!" :P

My car is a 49-state car, but the Smog station near Russo tested and passed my AMG! Of course, it still retains the air pump, EGR, O2 sensor and cats, so no surprise really - but they could have denied even testing it because it lacks the 50 state sticker. Car was delivered to Russo after the smog test and checked in. The father/son who bought my 1994 White/Grey E500 (49k miles) are in Monterey and the E500 was also shipped in the same transporter as my AMGs (sedan and this coupe) and also Jono's Hammer Coupe (to be shown at Legends). The current owner of the E500 drove the transporter driver back to his truck. Like it when things work out! Jono's wagon will be shown at the Mercedes Pavilion Friday - Sunday at Pebble Beach for the unveiling of the new AMG hyper-car. His wagon was transported courtesy of MB.

The car is set to auction Thursday around 6:45PM. Was hoping for a Friday or Saturday night slot, but that's what I got. Having the car passed smog is nice - no disclaimer as it rolls onto the block that it "cannot be registered in California". This gets me more potential bidders...

Fingers crossed for a decent result.
Glad to hear all is playing out nicely. Good luck with the sale and look forward to seeing you on the green on Friday.

Different pistons had different dish designs. The AMG 6.0 pistons had certain designs that differentiated from the normal 560 rectangular dish designs.

Inspecting the pistons via borescope would verify if the pistons were stock ROW 9:1 or 10:1 euro pistons, or the one-off AMG designs. That'd be a good baseline on documenting the car. I posted pictures sometime back. If you need me to repost let me know.

Looking forward to seeing it cross the block. Will be another verified sale to add.

Hope to see many of you in Pebble Beach.

Al
Looking at the engine bay on your car, it looks EXACTLY like mine! Also, like mine, it doesn't have any stickers or AMG markings on it, even though the work order for my car read "Engine rebuild" as well. But since the document doesn't give any details, I assumed (incorrectly perhaps?) that my car has the plain 5.6L in it.

Can anyone here with more knowledge than me throw some light into this?

Makes sense, thanks Al. Why not do a dyno just for sh*ts sake?

As far as Legends goes, I was set to bring the 1992 400E 6.0 RENNtech, but it appears I will be just doing a drive by in the E55. Time and work concerns...

genuine wide bodies and w124 hammers have seen a real spike in appreciation. it'll be interesting to see how a fine example as this will do on the auction block.

Called the auction house and asked about their estimate. They said it is $35K-$40K.

I think it will sell for WAY more than that.

This is a member's car. There is discussion over at BW about why the displacement was not specified in the auction ad because that is a major gaffe - most people will view it as a gussied-up plain 560SEC and bid accordingly and not for the special AMG that it (purportedly) is...

i saw this car listed at R&S. It has AMG engine and exhaust mods. Are the wheels period correct? Overall nice presentation.
