Just when you think you've seen every variation, something new and different appears.
Looks like AMG Japan but more unique as it appears right out of Affalterbach.

Posted on the AMG Private Lounge by a "DR FRANCKY" from Bulgaria.
Indicated as a 1991, but definitely has a face lift.
GEN II body kit more like a 1994-1995.
Engine looks like the M119 that was used in the E60.
A real sleeper, from no badging to the stock eight hole wheels

Really cool! I haven't seen official AMG tags like that.

A similar CE widebody in blue was for sale a while back in Japan. That one, too, had an Affalterbach like the one shown. However, this is the first time I see an AMG VIN being stamped in a firewall! Very unique and a rare find! Thanks for sharing

I wonder if AMG after signing the agreement of co-operation and investment with Mercedes in 1991 caused them to be a bit more of a "car maker" then a "tuner".

Seeing that they began at some point to assign a AMG specific VIN or chassis number would seem to indicate that they kept records of later builds...

Somewhere in Affalterbach there must be documentation on later builds that they for whatever reason may not be revealing?

My real question now is with the AMG Japan builds.
Most tend to be late model 1991 and newer, coinciding with the AMG initial merger and most seem to be 124 chassis builds.
Unlike AMG UK, there seems to be no home market RHD builds.
They are extremely unique like the AMG 400E and more facelift GEN II builds.
More "factory" quality then "tuner' crudeness.
By this time Japan was the only AMG franchise still "building" and selling AMG cars.

 Consider the possibility that AMG Japan never built any cars and all were built in Affalterbach and exported to Japan ?
