The Mercedes-Benz W126 S-Class made its debut at the 1979 Frankfurt Motor Show, encompassing both standard and extended-wheelbase SEL sedans. This intriguing pre-merger 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL AMG was completed by Mercedes-Benz in Arctic White over an uncommon Blue velour interior, equipped with heated front and rear seats and an electrically operated rear window sunshade. The Japanese-market sedan was subsequently upgraded by AMG-Japan in period, with its modifications having been visually verified by both AMG Classic and MKB Motoren Manufaktur. These enhancements include an AMG Series II Aerokit finished in Silver, performance-tuned suspension, AMG exhaust, distinctive Monoblock I "Hammer" wheels, AMG 300-km/h instrument cluster with white faces, and a bespoke AMG steering wheel. Perhaps its most fascinating period feature is its dashboard television, complete with its original corded remote control still in working order.

This extraordinary 560 SEL AMG exhibits exceptional preservation with a documented 31,937 kilometers (approximately 19,960 miles) at the time of cataloging. Its exceptional condition is thoroughly documented through an odometer certificate and Japanese service records from late 2021. The work spanned mechanical attention including cleaning the oil pan and replacing the water pump, suspension adjustments with replacement ball joints, audio system and wiring repairs, and various cosmetic refinements such as radiator grill restoration and wheel refurbishment. This example represents a beautifully preserved intersection of Mercedes-Benz luxury and period AMG performance engineering.
