came across this:

Mercedes Benz AMG model a real AMG imported direct from Germany back then (they call it gray market car but legal and was registered in CA DMV). This is prior to MB purchased the company AMG. 5.0 liter engine. Purchased used as a toy in 1993 but life got its way got married and had the car in storage for 17 years indoor in San Francisco. Took it out 2011 and spent about $3,000 to make the car running good. New battery, new brakes, new fluids all around and took the shop few weeks to do it with genuine MB parts. New Continental extreme contact tires all around. Drive like a Porsche tight and firm. Only has 77,800 miles plus or minus on the car from new. All Mercedes Benz mechanics or shop told me it is a real AMG with all the racing modification done in Germany. Since it is 1980 no smog check needed. Just got the air conditioning recharged. Sony radio face can be detached radio works well without the antenna retractable. Some minor touch up may be needed but mechanically it has no problem. Wife said to sell and offer for $18,950 or make offer. A nice car for that money to drive around town. Call 541.301.8028 SERIOUS INQUIRY ONLY. No email or text please. Sold "as-is" "there-is" with all defect, if any. No warranty of any kind am not a dealer or ? All cash to seller car title will not be delivered to buyer until funds are verified. No funny business please and NO seller carry back financing so don't ask. Seller reserves the discretion of letting buyer to test drive the car. Not available to be seen until August 10th. Can email you more pictures if interested.

That car has been discussed in the past on BW.org... interesting interior and choice of Recaro seats. Wonder if the engine is infact an AMG-tuned version. I'm always cynical when I see claims like the ones posted but who knows?

Is this a 500SE after all? The instrument cluster screams modern laminated gauge faces....am I wrong in thinking that the color combos (i.e. black needles, et al) is a recent thing?

No thanks to that fraud job in Oregon passing off on ebay clusters as "AMG" (successfully, in multiples, unfortunately), I am starting to see these gauges pop up on "AMG" replicas around the globe. Though this one seems relatively better, I can't say as to whether these are 1980 gauge faces or not.

The seats look like the same ones that were in my '83 500SL, though I wouldn't call them "real" Recaros.... replicas? The ones in that car didn't have any Recaro markings on them, and looked pretty primitive construction-wise looking underneath.

Clue: The 1986+ third brake light painted in white. You be the judge.
