OMFG this one looks almost like my old '83 500SL I sold overseas to the NL some time back....
AMG motor mods!

I have a 1983 AMG Mercedes 500sl for sale. This car is an extremely rare euro 107 body. 5.0 litre v8, heated seat options, dual climate control, This car still needs a top and interior work. Body is pretty straight and clean. Odometer reads 277,895 kilometeres, which converts to about 172,675 miles. I've installed a new rebuilt transmission, fuel pump, fuel filter, carrier bearing, and have several parts that go with the car. I'll consider trades for late 70's to early 80's corvettes, porsche 911 or 944, or jeep wranglers and maybe the right camaro, maybe. Again, this car is extremely rare AMG 107 body. I've talked to several Mercedes enthusiasts who have never seen an AMG 107 body. Serious inquirey only please. I work strange hours, so if you call, please leave a message, I will return calls at my earliest convienence. Call or text 765xxxxxx

Anyone have an idea on what this car may be worth, sight unseen? I'm thinking about making an offer.

Nice find! Unusual engine rating decal.
Tough to put a value on it without a true assessment condition.

Motor looks like it needs help. Not sure if the solids are still in there.
A familiar sight, no?

I honestly cannot see this car being worth even 5, with the condition; no hard top, water damage to interior, and overall condition of interior. It might have more rust than the 87' SEC parts car I bought for 2. Over 2-2.5, it would have to have full paperwork, and provenance.

its got the solids, confirmed, tho the cam lobes look tired. Note how there doesn't seem to be any "fresh, wet" oil around the head? Possible dry head/engine?
"I've recently gotten it to run, but only if i'm giving it about 1,700 rpm."
"I've only recently been able to make it run. baby steps i guess. i had it running monday for 6 and a half minutes at 2000 rpm, so i was happy with that. tried again yesterday and flooded it"

Hey.. the car was imported by Bill Dovell! I know him, had my old car serviced by him. He had some AMG parts on ebay some time back... including a genuine set of AMG headers and complete exhaust.

Guy seems to be throwing in the towel over a pithy fuel pump relay. Either that or more issues (one assumption is compression shot due to oil starvation?) found w/ the motor.
Even so, with 172K miles, missing hardtop, the interior work needed, may be ideal for a R107 enthusiast looking for an AMG, though a project....
I have a 1983 AMG Mercedes 500sl. The body is in great shape. It has a 5.0 V8 with AMG engine upgrade. The interior needs restored and it needs a top. It is an extrememly rare AMG Mercedes original numbers matching car. I have verified ALL AMG modifications. Very impressive original car. It has new fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, transmission, I've had the gas tank out, cleaned, and blown out the fuel lines. I had it running briefly a month ago, but I think the fuel pump relay has failed. No big deal there. I estimate it would take about $2000.00 future investment to have this car really nice. Probably needs a basic tune up and fuel pump relay to run. The car had sat for about 7 or 8 years when I got it in June of 2011. It was imported to Bill Dovell Motor Car Company in Columbus OH. I'm not really looking to sell it, I'd like to trade it for another car or truck. It's a really nice piece, I'd just rather work on a Jeep, Dodge, or Chevy. I'm open to trades on several different kinds of cars including, but not limited to: 1996 Dodge Ram, Corvette, Jeep Wranger, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Camaro, Trans Am, Jaguars with 350's, Porsche. Let me know what ya got to trade, I'd like to see it.
