Up for sale is a very rare European 500 SEC AMG coupe. These cars are highly prized by Mercedes collectors. Back in the day, these cars were the top of the Mercedes range. One had to first buy a new Mercedes, then bring it to an authorized AMG dealer/installer ( back then, AMG was a separate tuning firm before being bought by Mercedes Benz A.G.) for very expensive AMG upgrades. These upgrades were available a la cart, so the buyer could do as little or as much as his wallet would allow, ranging from a few interior upgrades to an all out engine, drivetrain, suspension, and aerodynamic kit conversion, costing almost as much as the initial purchase price of the car. This car is outfitted with the staggered 8x16, 9x16 AMG Penta wheels, full aero kit, AMG leather steering wheel, and 300 kph AMG speedometer. One had to purchase any three upgrades in order to get the trunk badge, which this car also has. It also has the very rare trip computer option as well. The European cars were, and are, more desireable than their USA counterparts as they were much more powerful due to lack of catalytic converters, had much more aesthetically pleasing bumpers, and far better flush mounted glass lens headlights than the substandard U.S. DOT required lamps of the time.

This Metallic Anthracite Grey with grey leather interior car is in exceptionally good condition for being 27 years old. I've owned it since 1996 and have kept up with the required maintenance issues, especially the timing chain and tensioner replacement, valve guides and most of front suspension was rebuilt. I have service records going back to 1988. What it mainly needs is an interior freshening; headliner replacement (common issue on W126 coupes), dash has some cracks due to age (common issue on old MBs) sun damage on rear parcel shelf (again, common issue on W126 coupes). Original paint is in very good shape save one quarter sized spot on hood where clear coat has peeled, and some clear coat peel on top of right fender. With a little work, mainly interior, this car could be a show winner. I just don't have the time or inclination to finish it out as I have other more pressing projects to complete.
